about

Written February, 2011, after watching four seasons of Dexter in about two months. This is one of those songs that you don't really want to play for your spouse when you're finished with it. Recording Rochelle's vocal part was a trip. We had not played the song out yet, so we had to just play with it. After a few hours she made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Done. Print. - J

lyrics

There’s a one-eyed bird on a high line pole
There’s a one-eyed bird on a high line pole
It follows me around wherever I go
There’s a one-eyed bird on a high line pole

Got a pretty little girl in the back of my mind
Got a pretty little girl in the back of my mind
Left her in a place nobody can find
Got a pretty little girl in the back of my mind

Man in the town says he’s lookin’ for me
Man in the town says he’s lookin’ for me
People ain’t as kind as they used to be
Man in the town says he’s lookin’ for me

In the middle of the night is where the truth comes out
In the middle of the night is where the truth comes out
Everybody gonna see what I’m all about
In the middle of the night is where the truth comes out

In a cold dark hole is where they’ll bury me
In a cold dark hole is where they’ll bury me
At the end of a rope I’ll be set free
In a cold dark hole is where they’ll bury me

There’s a one-eyed bird on a high line pole
There’s a one-eyed bird on a high line pole
It follows me around wherever I go
There’s a one-eyed bird on a high line pole
It follows me around wherever I go...
