about

Written July, 2011. I happened to be at a homeless shelter in Detroit, Michigan working with an EMT crew. We responded to a man who was in the middle of a heroin overdose. He regained consciousness long enough to whisper the title of this song along with a couple lines. Wasn't sure this song would make the CD, but Rochelle said it was her favorite song, so here it is. - J

lyrics

One of these days, I’m gonna change
One of these days, I’m gonna change
Try something different
Try something new
Just for a change
Just for a change

Won’t be long now, till I break these chains
Won’t be long now, till I break these chains
There’s nothin’ to stop me
There’s nothin’ to fear
I’ll break these chains
I’ll break these chains

Just like a river that flows to the sea
I’ll be let loose and forever be free
Never the man that I was before
Closing the door on the past and what’s more...
I’ll break these chains
I’ll break these chains

One of these days, I’m gonna change
One of these days, I’m gonna change
There’ll be no surrender
There’ll be no retreat
Cause I’m gonne change
Yeah, I’m gonna change
Just for a change

The Potter's Field Ann Arbor, Michigan

"The Potter's Field defies easy description -- Harmoniously haunting, deceptively simple, painting portraits of real life on the canvas of the listeners' hearts and minds with sepia undertones of edgy eeriness, poignant lyrics and bright splashes of toe-tapping energy." ... more
